Judge Geis is an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) hearing cases for both SERB and SPBR.
Judge Geis was first introduced to the field of labor relations and employment law as a high school history/government teacher while serving as his school district’s local union president. To further his interest in labor/employment relations, he attended law school at night, and earned his J.D. degree while teaching and clerking during the day. He also interned at the National Labor Relations Board, Region 8 Cleveland and served as an associate editor on the school’s law review.
Upon graduation, Judge Geis began his career as a labor relations manager for the State of Ohio. In his work at various state agencies, he successfully handled grievances, administered contracts, participated in collective bargaining negotiations, advocated at arbitration, and mediated Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) cases among other duties. His varied experiences give him the perspective to understand diverse parties’ interests and points of view.
Judge Geis received his B.A. in Social Studies and Secondary Education, Summa Cum Laude from Walsh University. He earned his J.D., Cum Laude, from the University of Akron School of Law.
